Daria utilizes her method of flat, disaffected “risky truth-telling”
as a form of “transformed care of self” while acknowledging the
futility of her speaking truth to power (Salvato 150). Rather than
expecting some form of radical awakening and change from the
administration or her peers, she bides her time and exhausts the
system through her accommodational cynicism. What else is there
to do when political activism is rendered an empty and meaningless
symbolic gesture? Postmodernity is now collapsing in on itself. The
“reality television President” in power was elected without the
popular majority despite the promise of liberalism to “get out and
