of Carl and the other members of the Gallagher family
demonstrate the problematic use of exploitation in comedy today.
To create transformative narratives and inject that consciousness
into the world outside of the screen requires producers,
showrunners, and writers who fully appreciate the ideological and
practical implications of creative choices and then infuse popular
texts with complex even competing critical perspectives that
invite change.
