lected enough money to bring their candidate Reynolds to the United
States, and in the fall they enrolled him in Shaw University, a black
institution in Raleigh. In January 1962 the Board of Trustees referred
the question of integration in the undergraduate school to its Race
Relations Committee with instructions to report at the April meeting.
Several things happened in the interim that increased the mo-
mentum toward integration. On March 4 the Wake Forest Baptist
