The football team also did well, compiling a 7–5 record and winning the Jeep
Eagle Aloha Bowl in Honolulu on Christmas day, beating Arizona State 23–3. The
season and the bowl victory would be among the high-water marks of Head Coach
Jim Caldwell’s tenure at Wake Forest, the first winning season since 1992.
In women’s sports, the volleyball team went 25–9 (10–6 in the ACC) for its most
successful season in history and its second consecutive twenty-win season. The team
was led by Trina Maso de Moya, ACC Volleyball Player of the Year. Head Coach Mary
Buczek was honored as the ACC’s Coach of the Year. The field hockey team went 18–4
(2–2 in the ACC) and and was third in the nation, its highest national ranking ever.
