STRENGTH
Die Leut´ sagen von einem Besieger seiner Leidenschaften
nie: “Das war ein starker Geist“ sondern sie sagen: “Das
müssen schwache Leidenschaften gewesen sein.“

“Of one who has conquered his passions, people never say,
“That was a strong spirit,” but rather “Those must have been
puny passions.”
(When a man vanquishes his passions, people never praise the
strength of his will but criticize the weakness of his passions.)
STUPIDITY
Die Schaf´, wenn´s fromm sein, gehn viele in einen Stall, und
wenn´s donnert, stecken´s die Köpf´ z´samm´; sonst ist an
ihnen nichts Bemerkenswertes.

Sheep, when they feel pious, head for their fold and at a
