118 pearls around the neck
who involuntarily
moves to the beat
of the mbaqanga?
Who am I
who weeps
whenever I hear
Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika sung?
My Africaness -
may be
obscured
but
it too
rolls thickly
off my tongue,
moves
within my blood,
remains
on
my mind,
and
irrefutably
resides
in my heart.
For
I am
African
too.
