20 pearls around the neck
You look at me and see,
A mix of citrus splash and mango madness
Cheerful and lively,
Not caring what others think about me
Looking high spirited and fearless
But deep inside under the layers of skin and flesh
I feel as small as a glacier lake under the torment of global warming
Shy and self-conscious,
Mousy and awkward
I feel as if the vibrant colors have been washed out blue
And here I stand
Both of them real
Both of them me.
The Wakening to Adolescence.
