About the Society
The South Atlantic Philosophy of Education Society (SAPES) was founded more than
a half century ago in order to promote the philosophic study of education, advance and
improve teaching and scholarship in philosophy of education and cultivate relationships
between educators and philosophers alike. Since 1955, it has expanded to include
scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds who meet annually to discuss issues
related to the philosophy of education and other foundational concerns. Included are
philosophers, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, and others whose work illuminates
the relationships between schools and wider societies.
